Abstract
- A study was conducted to examine the kinetics of particle uptake in the Peyer's patches of pigs. Lyophilized baker's yeast was suspended in phosphate-buffered saline while tissue samples were fixed in a solution composed of formaldehyde, glutaraldehyde and CalCl2. Results indicated that particles migrate down to and across the basal lamina within 2.5 to 4-h. Findings also showed that phagocytosis, lysosomal degradation and antigen presentation were supported by subepithelial phagocytes.
