Abstract

A study was conducted to test whether mucosal mast cells could be activated by endogenous cholecystokinin (CCK) actions in the small intestine of rats. Chronic electromyography was carried out in aseptic conditions to surgically prepare the animals while rat mast cell protease II concentrations were determined by ELISA. Results indicated that the degranulation of musocal mast cells stemmed from endogenous CCK release.
