Abstract
- The abolition of the monopoly on international calling held by Hongkong Telecom on Jan 1, 1999, will mark a significant shift towards the liberalization of Hong Kong's telecommunications market. It is widely recognized that the telecommunications market must be substantially reformed, as telecommunications are vital to the high levels of business activity in Hong Kong. It is likely that charges will fall and that a wider variety of services will become available.
