Abstract

An enhanced Monte Carlo method was applied for the simulation of the ion transport in classical drift tube for ion-molecule asymmetric systems such as O-/O2 or N+/N2. The new technique takes care of the problem of incident ions which disappear at relatively high electric fields because of asymmetric charge transfer or electron detachment. These ion elimination processes were compensated by a fictitious ion formation which enhances the accuracy of the ion distribution function and swarm coefficient computations.
