Abstract

Many Canadian provinces are attempting to provide more geriatrics training to their primary care physicians. All medical schools in Canada provide courses in geriatrics and many students are exposed to the care of older people during their clerkships. Geriatric medicine was created as a subspecialty of internal medicine in 1977 and there are several professional societies, including the Canadian Society of Geriatric Medicine and the Canadian Association on Gerontology.
