Abstract

A survey of the technology adoption patterns of hotels in the US, Asia and Europe showed that hotels in Asia and Europe are the better adopters of technology than their US counterparts. This is seen in their use of guest history and database marketing system as well as the adoption of Internet technology. But US hotels were better at using property management systems, electronic locks and revenue/yield management systems. Asian and European hotels are also high users of guestroom automation, with 67% Asian hotels and 39% of European hotels employing such guestroom amenities as multiple phone lines.
