Abstract

The is an increasing demand for Synchronous Optical Network (SONET) network equipment among telecommunication carriers. SONET is a transport technology that uses the dual ring of fiber-optic cables and redundant central office (CO) equipment to connect a customer site to a lone or multiple COs. Proper planning and risk mitigation strategies are necessary in SONET technology implementation. An important aspect in the SONET selection and implementation is the relationship with the carrier.
