Competition or regulation for multimedia?

The convergence of telecommunication and mass media sectors in the European Union has raised difficulties in the formulation of an appropriate regulatory policy, particularly for telecommunications and broadcasting. This is due to the two sectors differences in regulatory systems as the former is governed by competition laws that are determined by free market forces, while the latter has received stringent government regulations.
