Abstract

Telecommunications carriers are expected to utilize asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) technology-based networks to manage various concerns related to the mixing of data and voice sources while combining these onto a protocol that can be amplified higher speeds. ATM will permit carriers to protect their infrastructure investments while merging their frame relay, systems network architecture and Internet traffic onto a single network at the same time. ATM will also allow carriers to market their services to corporate clients and lower level carriers, including Internet service providers.<br />ATM is the carrier's silver bullet.
