Abstract

A study was conducted on the blue electroluminescence from radio frequency magnetron sputtering-grown CaS:TmF3 thin films. Maximum brightness for the alternating current thin-film electroluminescne devices examined exceeded those of ZnS:TmF3 devices. Electroluminescence was also enhanced by excited electron equivalent average energy. The energy transfers to Tm3+ centers from the conduction band edge are believed to be the excitation mechanisms of electroluminescence in the samples.
