Abstract
- A strain of Salmonella typhimurium was transfected with the truncated genes for ActA and listeriolysin, virulence factors from Listeria monocytogenes, and used in oral vaccination. The transformed Salmonella elicited cellular and the humoral responses from the host mice. The response rate indicates that there has been a transfer of genetic material from the bacteria to the host which was substantiated by in vitro studies using peritoneal macrophages.
