Abstract

The studies related to the enhanced enzymatic activity of inorganic phosphate ([P.sub.i]) that binds the porcine heart succinyl-CoA synthetase (SCS) [alpha]-subunit (SCS[alpha]) in a noncovalent manner which could provide a new target for [P.sub.i] activation in mitochondria is presented. The results provide insight into SCS activation by [P.sub.i] binding which represented another mitochondrial target for the [P.sub.i]-induced activation of oxidative phosphorylation and anaerobic ATP production in energy-limited mitochondria.
