Abstract

A cobalt(II) complex was synthesized from the template condensation of tris(2-aminoethyl)-amine and formaldehyde in the presence of cobalt(II) ion. The product is an encapsulating macrobicyclic ligand, 4,14,19-tris(methoxymethyl)-1,4,6,9,12,14,19,21-octaazabicyclo [7.7.7]tricosane. X-ray crystallography revealed that the cobalt ion exhibit a trigonal bipyramidal geometry.
