Abstract
- The proportion of women in collegiate sports rose during the 1996-97 academic year. Women constituted 38% of the athletes at Division I institutions in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), resulting in an increase of one percentage point. However, men's programs received twice as much money as did women's programs, but women's sports programs and budget grew at a faster rate.
