Cracking the glass cages? Restructuring and ascriptive inequality at work

Abstract

A study was conducted to show that the organization of work can sustain or erode gender and racial disadvantage. It is argued that restructuring work can improve women's and minorities' visibility. Findings indicate that ascriptive inequality declines when employers adopt popular team and training programs which increase cross-functional collaboration.
