Abstract

The bactricidal/permeability-increasing protein BPI on reconstituted outer membrane of gram-negative bacteria was investigated to determine its mechanisms and action. Results of the study revealed that the binding and insertion of rBPI21 protein led to significant changes of the membrane current. This influenced membrane permeability and channel gating that consequently resulted to membrane dysfunction.
