The origins of brown adipose tissue

The research related to a common origin of white and brown adipocytes and questions regarding the provenance and regulation of brown adipose tissue which facilitates the recruitment of brown fat cells in the treatment of obesity is reviewed. The findings from the research related to functional brown adipose tissue in adults indicated that Myf5-negative brown cells play a significant role in the regulation of human energy expenditure.
