Accounting for choice set endogeneity in random utility models of recreation demand

Abstract

An endogenous choice set model is presented to assess the random utility model by forecasting which substitutes of a conventionally defined choice set are significant to individuals. Results from the analysis of examples reveals that a defined choice set in recreation site decision models may have a significant effect on parameter and compensating variation models.
