Retail giants endorse flexible POS software standards

Abstract
- Information technology executives from Sears, J.C. Penney, Kmart, Home Depot and representatives from leading computer firms shared their opinions on the future of point-of-sale (POS) system technology at the National Retail Federation's conference. Development of technical standards for POS systems will allow retailers create their own POS systems. The new POS software applications using standards based on Windows technology or Java standards will operate on various computing platforms and POS devices.
