Abstract

Analysis of alginate biosynthesis is undertaken through the isolation and characterization of alginate-defective mutants of Pseudomonas syringae. Results show that the P. syringae had a Tn5 insertion in the alginate structural gene cluster. Alginate gene expression was evoked through the inclusion of ninionic solute sorbitol which also indicated the presence of osmolarity in such an expression.
