Abstract

A Rickettsia helvetica-specific real-time TaqMan PCR assay is established and applied to the analysis of tick vectors and blood samples from Canidae and humans. Rickettsia helvetica is frequently detected in the Ixodes tick population but not in blood samples and many mammals might be exposed to Rickettsia helvetica due to the broad host range of Ixodes ticks and the high rate of infestation with the agent.
