Abstract
- In a certain area of North London, mothers of new infants appear to move from identification with the child to autonomy. They are very interested in that which is natural, and start out with a kind of healthy narcissism, which gradually goes away as they separate from the child in a number of stages in a kind of rebirthing. As each stage is exposed in contradiction to create the foundation for the next, profundity grows. Shopping and social groups are focused on, from the anthropological research point of view, which is contrasted to the point of view of psychoanalysis.
