Abstract

The Patagonian plains of Argentina were once abundantly inhabited by guanacos, an animal closely related to camels and dromedaries. Their numbers have dwindled rapidly as a result of widespread hunting, which is partly allowed by the government to control their population. The guanacos are viewed as a niusance because they competed for the same land as the commercially valuable sheep.
