Abstract
- Governmental policies enacted in 1991 in New Zealand altering the benefits and rent structures of those on state assistance appears to also have affected inter-regional migration patterns. Questionnaires were completed by 404 people who moved from urban to rural areas of New Zealand. Many respondents became state beneficiaries after their move. Many respondents indicated that their move was prompted by economic reasons.
