Abstract
- Newly approved drugs for the treatment of seizures include sustained-release formulations such as Athena Neurosciences' Carbatrol (carbamazepine) and Abbott Laboratories' Gabitril (tiagabine hydrochloride). Pharmacists predict that these new drugs will be used in conjunction with older remedies, such as Dilantin. Also described are possible side effects of tiagabine and other antiepilepsy drugs.<br />Make room on the shelves for yet another new antiseizure medication, and push over a bottle or two for a new sustained-release formulation of carbamazepine.
