Abstract
- The Connecticut Valley comprises two mathematical communities, one being the research sector and the other being high-school and middle-school teachers. Research mathematics remains a Valley industry despite the fact that the University of Massachusetts is the only one of five colleges that grants doctoral degrees. The second community is also lively with its own professional association, MathWest.
