Abstract

Metabolic engineering research has developed a gene clone of the eicosapentaenoic acid synthesis gene cluster from the bacterium Shewanella putrefaciens strain SCRC-2738 and expressed the gene in the marine cyanobacterium Synechococcus species. The cloning technique involved the use of broad-host-range cosmid vector pJRD215 to create plasmid pJRDEPA. Cyanobacterial transconjugants were grown at 23 degrees centigrade and incubated at 17 degrees centigrade for 24 hours.
