Abstract

In this paper we propose a design with low-power and distance tracking for both a remote control board and a monitor board for an MP3 player. The design consists of a microprocessor, a GPS module, an RF module, six Tyco switches and a 2 x 16 LCD display enabling the user to use all functions. Our remote control board supports a typical MP3 player with 27 functions. In addition this design detects both the outdoor longitude and latitude which are received by the monitor board through the GPS and the RF module. The remote control board also receives longitude and latitude. The monitor board, after receiving the longitude and latitude data of the remote control board, determines the distance between the two boards and shows this in a LCD display which allows the user to track another MP3 player user at any time. When the GPS is not able to detect a signal from a satellite we use the RSSI (Receive Signal Strength Indicator) register in the RF module to measure the distance between the two boards. We also use the RF module to transmit testing packages with identification codes, examine the number of packages that the monitor board has received and establish a table in order to calculate the distance according to the number of received packages.
