Abstract

The development of new abradable coatings has effectively increased the operating temperatures of gas turbine aircraft engines from 350 degrees Celsius to 1200 degrees Celsius. The new technology offers increased engine efficiency of up to 5% due to little change in fuel consumption. The new technology offers increased surge margin resulting in moer stability and active safety of engine flow conditions aside from reduced operating costs for airlines.
