The measurement of backscatter coefficient from a broadband pulse-echo system: a new formulation

A new formulation for the data reduction of the absolute backscatter coefficient from pulse-echo measurements is examined. The formulation enables straightforward diffraction correction and system calibration. It uses simple functions with tractable approximations which are simple constants in some cases. A reference plate is used to achieve system calibration.
