Abstract

The work of teachers should be given greater recognition, according to UK Chief Inspector of Schools Chris Woodhead, who has in the past gained a reputation for being extremely critical of teachers. Nevertheless, he feels that poor teachers should be identified and removed from the profession as quickly as possible. He has announced plans for schools watchdog Ofsted to make changes to some of its procedures. This follows criticism that some inspectors did not give teachers enough information about their performance.
