Abstract
- Conducting organic polymers are evaluated in terms of their prospective usefulness in meeting the demands for rechargeable batteries with high specific energy and power. It has been recognized that the highest specific energy and energy density may be provided by ion-transfer battery design with a lithium-inserting carbon negative (or metallic lithium) combined with metal oxide polymer or metal sulfide positive that is capable of inserting lithium ions during discharge and give them off during charging.
