Abstract

The influence of normal fluctuations in respiratory patterns on nonlinearites in heart rate variablity (HRV) was analyzed in healthy humans via electrocardiogram recordings. Forced respiration in healthy human subjects did not influence the applied measures for the nonlinear dynamics of HRV. Furthermore, nonlinear inputs from the respiratory to the cardiovascular oscillator were not responsible for the nonlinear complexity of HRV.
