Abstract
- American writer Norman Mailer shot to fame at the age of just 25 with his first novel 'The Naked and the Dead' but despite winning the Pulitzer Prize for 'The Armies of the Night' in 1968, he is famous less as a writer than as a figure. Mailer is approaching his 75th birthday yet has not lost the intense ambition that characterised 'The Naked and the Dead.' His latest book, his 30th, has enraged much of America because it purports to be a fictional account of Jesus told in Jesus' own words.
