Abstract
- Glasgow, Scotland's 11 art galleries and museums are embroiled in a huge row which centres around Julian Spalding, head of Glasgow Museums. One of Spalding's subordinates describes him as a lunatic and six very senior members of his staff are orchestrating a campaign to have him dismissed. A four-page memorandum of grievances describes Spalding as autocratic but he maintains that he is merely strong-willed. Spalding also rejects the serious charge that he breached the Museum Assn.'s code of conduct by accepting a painting from Scottish artist John Bellany as a wedding present.
