Abstract

The insulin sensitivity in the muscles of low-protein animals was analyzed in the skeletal muscles of male offspring of protein-malnourished rats. Analysis of muscle insulin sensitivity in low-protein rat offspring indicated the presence of high glucose basal transport. The muscle strips from the protein-malnourished offsprings are more sensitive to insulin compared to the muscles of normal rats. Furthermore, low-protein and normal rats exhibited similar insulin concentrations and total GLUT-4 transporter levels.
