Abstract
- New equations combining fluid level changes and piston travel can be used to calculate the reasonable submergence depth for rod pumps used in offshore oil operations. Factors which should also be taken into consideration in equations include the pump fill factor, reservoir fluid viscosity, rod pump type, and various pumping diameters. Piston travel rates should be based on polished-rod travel and fluid level velocity can be determined using an energy balance.<br />A reasonable rod pump submergence depth can be calculated by combining fluid level changes with piston travel.
