Abstract

Normal and injured transgenic mucine hearts were analyzed to determine the effects of cardiac dysfunction on cardiomyocyte deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) synthesis. Analysis of normal and injured mucine hearts based on a cardiomyocyte nuclear labeling index indicated a maximum labeling index of 0.0005%. Furthermore, a single synthetic nucleus was detected after the examination of 180,000 ventricular heart cells indicating the rarity of cardiomyocyte synthesis.
