Abstract
- Southeast Asia's volume of shrimp production by aquaculture is steadily dropping due to environmental and ecological problems, according to a World Wide Web report, 'Asian Shrimp Farms at a Crossroads.' In addition to the abuse of toxic chemicals and antibiotics, over-intensive production, destroyed mangroves and contaminated pond water have resulted in disease outbreaks. For example, Taiwan's production of cultured shrimp declined from 90,000 tons to 25,000 tons in two years.<br />The market for the world's most popular seafood - shrimp and prawns - continues to expand, but what about the supply?
