Abstract
- There is an apparent softening of the approaches of both the Labour party and the Tories to youth crime in the run up to the election. The government leaked its latest plans on youth crime which aims to target parents of young children in danger of becoming delinquents through crime diversion groups, comprising social workers, probation officers, police and teachers. Labour is also focusing on parental support, and has floated mentoring for problem children with plans to encourage good parenting programmes. The Liberal Democrats have also proposed parental support schemes.
