Telecom pact seen triggering global mergers

The international telecommunications industry will decide on February 15, 1997 whether to lower trade barriers in the industry. The Federal Communications Commission has long been working towards this goal by formulating policies that require reciprocal benefits for US and international carriers. Once trade barriers are down, the industry may experience mergers at the international level to allow big and small telecommunications companies access to the global market.
