Abstract
- The new French manuscript of Nijinsky's 'Notebooks' enables the reader to see how the power of Nijinsky's obsessions carried him away from reality. In this artist paranoia always warred with lucidity and obsession with inspiration. The Avignon Festival presented a stage adaptation of this translation in 1993, and a revised production was done in March 1996 at the Hermitage in St. Petersburg. Ultimately, the shadow forces won Nijinsky's inner Faustian battle. His unanswered cry for compassion echoes through the pages of this new edition.
