Collection development in the access age: all you thought it would be and more!

A number of trends will spur changes in library collection development in the last few years of the 20th century. Declining budgets, for instance, will lead to the merging of departments and outsourcing of functions such as cataloging while the increased variety of collection resources will require libraries to provide easy access to available information and materials. A scenario of the academic library in the year 2010 is described.
