Abstract
- It appears that many patients with a syndrome characterized by a combination of conditions that include synovitis, acne, pustulosis, hyperostosis, and osteitis (SAPHO) also frequently have spondylodiscitis. The medical records of 25 patients with the SAPHO syndrome were reviewed for evidence of spondylodiscitis. Thirty-two percent of these patients also had spondylodiscitis, many in multiple locations along the spine. Skin involvement was noted either before or simultaneously with bone involvement in nearly all patients with spondylodiscitis. Back pain was successfully treated with anti-inflammatory drugs.
