Abstract

A qualitative study compared and contrasted the work of motivational researcher Frederick Herzberg from the 1950s to the 1970s with results of a current study of management effectiveness to determine changes in employee motivation. The current study primarily concerned the healthcare industry. Results indicate interpersonal relations are the most important motivating factor although they were ranked seventh in Herzberg's work. Overall results suggest strong similarities in factor rankings.
