Abstract

Technological innovations in multimedia and telematics have presented new ways of designing and distributing learning materials. The problem of converting university lectures into multimedia-based digital learning material is explored by assessing the courses called DIALECT, or Digital Interactive Lectures. Distributed through a broadband communication network, DIALECT utilizes computer simulation, animation and hyperlink facilities. DIALECT lectures are stored in compressed form on a UNIX server and can be presented through low-cost multimedia Windows PCs.
