Abstract
- The effect of ischemic preconditioning (IPC) on the modulation of ischemia-reperfusion injury (I/R) was investigated in murine cremaster muscle. Muscles showed increased leukocyte adhesion and migration after I/R compared to nonischemic muscles. Exposure of the muscles to adenosine deaminase attenuated the inhibitory effect of IPC on leukocytes. However, topical application of adenosine to the cremaster before ischemia increased leukocyte adhesion and migration, suggesting that postischemic leukocyte adhesion and migration may be mediated by adenosine.
