Abstract

An experiment using cultures of coronary endothelial cells from Wistar rats has provided evidence for the functional role of neuropeptide Y (NPY) in these cells. Measurements of albumin across the monolayers indicated that NPY reduces macromolecule permeability of coronary endothelial monolayers. The effect of NPY was abolished by pertussis toxin. It was shown that NPY reduced permeability by reducing cAMP contents of the cells.
