Abstract

Case studies of obese patients treated with phototherapy reveal that the therapy can reduce body weight. Phototherapy was given daily for a duration of 10 days, and then twice a week for four and a half weeks. The patients showed sensitivity to light. The net weight of three of the four women patients decreased between 1.5 to 2.4 kg. The three patients also reported an improvement in mood. The results indicate that light-exposure affects the melatonin-serotonin system and carbohydrate intake.
