Abstract

Disordered eating attitudes and body dissatisfaction among Chinese adolescent females in Hong Kong show similarity to Western patterns of these variables. Body dissatisfaction is a strong predictor of disordered eating. Conflict and perceived family cohesion are also related to body dissatisfaction to some extent. These psychosocial variables can increase weight control behavior, fat phobic attitudes, and body dissatisfaction among female adolescents in Hong Kong.
